LIRR Double Track Project - Month of August

July 26th, 2018 – During the month of August, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will continue ongoing track work and other construction in preparation for completion of the Double Track Project between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. The LIRR Double Track Project will improve service and reliability on the LIRR’s Ronkonkoma Branch. It will reduce delays and enable more off peak service in both directions. Please review the below information to see how this work will affect traveling in or around our area.

PLATFORM CHANGES DURING THE WEEK

  • Beginning Monday, August 6, Deer Park and Brentwood South platforms will be out of service for five days. Customers will board and exit trains on the North platform from August 6 through August 10.

WORK IN AUGUST INCLUDES

  • Continue installation, testing and cutover of new signal system from Farmingdale through Central Islip.
  • Realign tracks and remove old switches in Farmingdale by New Highway.
  • Install new switch at Carlls Straight Path in Deer Park and align new Mainline track.
  • Construction at Pinelawn and Wyandanch Stations continues as we near completion.
