LIRR Double Track Project - August 1st *CANCELED*

Update 7/31: The LIRR has canceled the below scheduled work
due to weather forecast in our area.

July 30th, 2018 – The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will permanently pave the North Peters Boulevard grade crossing in Central Islip in response to community concern about the crossing. Work is scheduled for this Wednesday, August 1st, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This work will improve the ride quality and track stability through the crossing. Please review the below information to see how this work will affect traveling in or around our area.

North Peters Boulevard Grade Crossing, Central Islip

  • Wednesday, August 1st, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. permanent paving will take place at the North Peters Blvd. grade crossing in Central Islip.
  • Train service will not be affected.
  • While the work is in progress the crossing will be fully closed to road traffic. LIRR and the MTA Police will provide the necessary flagmen, detour signs and crossing protection.

Detours are as follows
  • South Bound: Head west on West Suffolk Avenue to Route 111 (Islip Ave). Make left onto Route 111. Make a left onto Brightside Avenue.
  • North Bound: Head west on Brightside Avenue to Route 111 (Islip Ave). Make a right onto Route 111. Make a right onto West Suffolk Avenue.
