The Beach Closure Issued for West Oaks Recreation Club Beach Has Been Lifted

August 15th, 2018  Suffolk County Department of Health Services has announced that the beach closure issued for West Oaks Recreation Club Beach, in the Town of Islip, has been lifted, as results of recent samples show the water quality to be within acceptable levels. Twenty-five beaches remain closed to bathing following continued heavy rainfall producing bacteria levels that exceeding acceptable criteria. Please review the list of closed beaches below:

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat. Beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.
