Testing EXTENDED: Montauk Branch – Babylon

February 7th, 2019 – Please be advised: The Long Island Rail Road track safety testing on the Montauk Branch between Babylon and Montauk, previously scheduled to end today, Thursday, February 7th, has been extended one day. The program will continue tomorrow, Friday, February 8, 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in order to complete the work.

The track safety tests will be performed using the Sperry Rail Car, a specialized diagnostic car fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment designed to detect internal rail defects not readily visible to the eye. If defects are found, LIRR track maintenance personnel will correct them while maintaining safe and reliable operations.

As a result of the work, trains will not operate between Babylon and Montauk in both directions, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Buses will substitute for trains between these stations.
