November 5th, 2021 – slip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter presented Citations of Recognition on behalf of the Town Board to first responders from throughout the Town of Islip, to recognize their heroic actions in the fight against the Opioid epidemic. In 2020, Opioid overdoses in Suffolk County rose to its highest rate since 2017, with 1,515 overdoses. Of those, 910 deaths were averted through the administration of Narcan. Since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, there has been an uptick in Opioid use stemming from lockdown protocols which brought on isolation, job insecurities and negatively impacted people’s mental health. About a quarter of the documented opioid overdoses took place in the Town of Islip.
November 4th, 2021 – Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter along with the members of the Islip Town Board, unanimously adopted the Town’s 2022 annual operating budget and the 2022 capital budget plan at today’s budget hearing, and is available here.
October 22nd, 2021 – Town of Islip officials were joined by representatives from NY State and Suffolk County at the grand opening of the new Town of Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-A-Pet Center. The state-of-the-art ADA compliant facility is centrally located on Carleton Ave in Central Islip, and consists of 17,727sf of space, a larger lobby area, additional viewing rooms, a cattery, ample parking, energy efficient lighting, dedicated outdoor play areas for dogs, 82 kennels and a separate area for aggressive dogs.
