May 3rd, 2021 – TRAVEL ADVISORY: Overnight Closures on Sunrise Highway (State Route 27) in the Towns of Islip and Brookhaven
The New York State Department of Transportation advised motorists today to expect a series of overnight closures of Sunrise Highway (State Route 27) in the towns of Islip and Brookhaven, Suffolk County, from Wednesday, May 5, through Friday, May 7, and again on Monday, May 10, to accommodate bridge cleaning operations.
All traffic from Sunrise Highway will be detoured onto the Service Road between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. at the following times and locations:
- Wednesday, May 5 - eastbound between exit 49 (Lakeland Avenue/Suffolk County Route 93) and exit 50 (Lincoln Avenue).
- Thursday, May 6 - westbound between exit 50 and exit 49.
- Friday, May 7 - eastbound between exit 52A (North Ocean Avenue/Suffolk County Route 83) and exit 53 (State Route 112).
- Monday, May 10 - westbound between exit 53 & exit 52A.
Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
