A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” - Angie

Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and members of the Islip Town Board are cautioning residents about the potential of black ice tonight, Friday, January 7th, following this morning’s snowstorm. Public Safety officials will be out monitoring conditions throughout the evening, ready to treat any threat at the first sign of black ice.

Currently, no icing conditions have been observed and residual salt remains on the road as a preventative, thanks to the hard work of Town crews to clear and treat the roads ahead of, during and following the snowstorm. Additionally, observed wind conditions may help to dry left over road moisture that can contribute to the formation of black ice.

Still, officials are advising residents to use caution and practice safe driving when traveling in these wintery conditions. Be sure to reduce speed and remember that black ice is not easily visible.

Likewise, please continue to keep roadways clear of vehicles and other obstructions so that plows and emergency vehicles can pass safely. Residents are reminded that during a snow storm, parking on the lawn is permissible, and ensures that plows are able to thoroughly and safely clear roads.
