A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

Stay Safe and Informed with Hurricane Preparedness Tips

hurricane season

May 5 – May 11 is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter wants you to know that now is a good time to educate yourself about what actions to take before the hurricane season begins, when a tropical cyclone is approaching, when it is affecting the area, as well as what to do after the storm leaves.

“Please avail yourself of the valuable information below from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Throughout the week of May 5-May 11, the Town of Islip will share resources, from safety tips to action plans to help keep you and your loved ones safe,” said Supervisor Carpenter.

  • Sunday, May 5— Know Your Risk: Wind & Water

  • The first step of preparing for hurricanes is to know your risk. Find out today what types of water and wind hazards could happen where you live. Hurricanes are not just a coastal problem. Impacts from wind and water can be felt hundreds of miles inland, and significant impacts can occur regardless of the storm’s strength. Know if you live in an area prone to flooding, if you live in an evacuation zone, and identify any structural weaknesses in your home.
