Islip Town Clerk Extends Hours for Additional Valentine's Day Weddings

January 15th, 2019 – Due to the overwhelming popularity, Town Clerk Olga Murray has announced the return of Valentine's Day extended wedding services at Town Hall. On Thursday, February 14th, 2019, an additional 3 hours of wedding ceremonies will be offered to accommodate residents looking to celebrate their special day in conjunction with the popular holiday.

Nominations Open for 2019 Black History Celebration

December 14th, 2018 – The Town of Islip is currently accepting nominations for the 2019 celebration of Black History. The Town of Islip will celebrate Black History in February by honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the Islip community, and live or work in the Town of Islip. The celebration will take place at the February Town Board Meeting. 

To nominate a community member, you must submit a nomination form before the January 16th, deadline.

Winter Yard Waste Reminder

January 11th, 2019 – Please be advised: There is only one week remaining in the Town’s Christmas Tree/Winter Unlimited Waste Collection program. The program will run until Friday, January 18th. A second truck will collect trees and yard waste separately from your garbage. Please refer to your seasonal mailing card or the Town’s Information Dashboard for your winter yard waste collection day and eligibility requirements.

Frontier Airlines Launches Non Stop Service to Raleigh-Durham

January 8th, 2019 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter today announced that Frontier Airlines has launched nonstop service from ISP to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. Tickets are on sale now for the new nonstop service, which will be offered three times weekly beginning April 30, 2019.

"Frontier's addition of nonstop service to Raleigh-Durham from ISP is great news for our region. Offering convenient travel to North Carolina's Research Triangle of three major universities creates endless opportunities on multiple levels for residents, whether traveling for business, education or leisure, and aligns nicely with our plans for strategic growth for ISP,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

Islip Town Supervisor Announces FREE Smoking Cessation Classes

January 7th, 2019 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter is encouraging residents who use tobacco products to start 2019 on a healthy note by signing up for FREE smoking cessation classes. The classes, offered by the Suffolk County Department of Health in conjunction with Good Samaritan Hospital, will begin in late January. The Learn to Be…Tobacco Free program offers assistance with planning, support, counseling and provides over-the-counter medications to participants who are medically eligible.

“Cigarette smoking is one of the toughest habits to break,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “I urge anyone who currently uses tobacco or e-cigarettes to sign up for this FREE course. Give the gift of health to yourself and to your loved ones this year, by quitting smoking in 2019,” she added.

Suffolk County to Host Septic Improvement Program Information Session

December 28th, 2018 – Please be advised: Suffolk County is hosting an information session about the County’s Septic Improvement Program on Friday, January 4th, from 10 am. to 12 pm. at the Department of Health Services in Yaphank.

Nitrogen pollution from cesspools and septic systems has been identified as the largest single cause of degraded water quality contributing to beach closures, restrictions on shell fishing, toxic algae blooms and massive fish kills. For homeowners close to surface waters in Suffolk County, nitrogen can rapidly reach surface waters where it contributes to degradation of our marshes, bays, and beaches. Even inland, nitrogen from septic systems will eventually reach the groundwater and surface waters.
