Youth Bureau Hosts School Supply Drive

August 10th, 2018 – The Town of Islip Youth Bureau has announced the 2018 School Supply Drive, active now through August 31st. Help send our town's youth on the path to success by starting them off with all the supplies they may need this coming school year. Supplies can be dropped off at both the Youth Bureau located at Town Hall West, 401 Main Street in Islip, or the Office of Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen at Jacob Ockers House, 965 Montauk Hwy. LIRR Double Track Project - August 13th through 31st


August 10th, 2018 – Beginning on Monday, August 13th, and continuing through Friday, August 31st, the LIRR will be replacing wood ties with concrete ties between Veterans Highway through Ronkonkoma Station on the Mainline. This concrete tie replacement work is being performed in conjunction with the Double Track Project and as part of the LIRR’s 2018 Annual Track Program, an ongoing initiative to renew track infrastructure assets and improve safety and on-time performance. Rainfall-Related Beach Advisory Lifted

August 9th, 2018 – The beach advisory issued Wednesday, August 8, 2018, by Suffolk County Health following heavy rainfall, has been lifted. Additionally, the beach closure issued for Amityville Village Beach, Bayport Beach and Sound Beach Property Owners Association West Beach has been lifted as results of recently collected samples meet water quality criteria.

Tanner Park Beach, Venetian Shores Beach, Cory Beach, Shirley Beach, Benjamins Beach, West Oaks Recreation Club Beach, Sayville Marina Park Beach and Lake Ronkonkoma remain closed due to the continuation of excess bacteria.


Cultural Affairs Announces Summer Circus Camp 2018

August 8th, 2018 – Town of Islip Cultural Affairs presents Summer Circus Camp 2018! Learn the art of stilt walking, clowning, acrobatics, juggling and much more from trained circus professionals. Suffolk County Health Issues Advisory Against Bathing at 35 Beaches

UPDATE: August 9th, 2018: The beach advisory issued Wednesday, August 8, 2018, by Suffolk County Health following heavy rainfall, has been lifted. Click HERE to read more.

August 8th, 2018 – Due to the heavy rainfall, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 35 beaches, including beaches within and adjacent to various north shore embayments. The following beaches located in the Town of Islip are included in the advisory: West Islip Beach, Islip Beach, East Islip Beach, West Oaks Recreation Club Beach, Brightwaters Village Beach, Bayberry Beach & Tennis Club Beach. Please refer to the list below to review all affected beaches.


LIRR Double Track Project - August 9th

August 7th, 2018 – The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has announced that paving of the grade crossing at North Peters Boulevard in Central Islip has been rescheduled for this Thursday, August 9, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This work will improve the ride quality and track stability through the crossing. Please review the below information to see how this work will affect traveling in or around our area.


Suffolk County Announces Ground Spraying for Adult Mosquitoes

August 7th, 2018 – If weather permits; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes. Please review below to learn more information, including where and when this treatment will be applied in our area.


Bay Beaches, Pools and Spray Park Hours Extended

August 6th, 2018 – Due to the high heat index for both today, Monday August 6th, and tomorrow, Tuesday August 7th, Supervisor Carpenter has extended the hours of operation at the Town's bay beaches, pools and the Ship Wreck Cove spray park. All bay beaches will remain open until 7:00 pm. All pools will remain open until 7:30 pm. Ship Wreck Cove spray park, located at 150 South Clinton Avenue in Bay Shore will also remain open until 7:30 pm. Ocean beaches will follow their normal hours of operation.

Supervisor Urges Precautions During Heat Wave

August 6th, 2018 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter is reminding residents to take the necessary precautions during a heat wave in order to avoid heat stroke and illness. Meteorologists have issued a heat advisory throughout the Tri-State area.

“The frail elderly, children and animals are at a higher risk of heat stroke during a heat wave. I urge residents to follow the steps below to prevent falling ill in extreme temperatures. We want everyone to be in good health while enjoying the summertime,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
