Suffolk County Health Issues Advisory Against Bathing at 35 Beaches

UPDATE: August 9th, 2018: The beach advisory issued Wednesday, August 8, 2018, by Suffolk County Health following heavy rainfall, has been lifted. Click HERE to read more.

August 8th, 2018 – Due to the heavy rainfall, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 35 beaches, including beaches within and adjacent to various north shore embayments. The following beaches located in the Town of Islip are included in the advisory: West Islip Beach, Islip Beach, East Islip Beach, West Oaks Recreation Club Beach, Brightwaters Village Beach, Bayberry Beach & Tennis Club Beach. Please refer to the list below to review all affected beaches.

LIRR Double Track Project - August 9th

August 7th, 2018 – The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has announced that paving of the grade crossing at North Peters Boulevard in Central Islip has been rescheduled for this Thursday, August 9, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This work will improve the ride quality and track stability through the crossing. Bay Beaches, Pools and Spray Park Hours Extended

August 6th, 2018 – Due to the high heat index for both today, Monday August 6th, and tomorrow, Tuesday August 7th, Supervisor Carpenter has extended the hours of operation at the Town's bay beaches, pools and the Ship Wreck Cove spray park. All bay beaches will remain open until 7:00 pm. All pools will remain open until 7:30 pm. Ship Wreck Cove spray park, located at 150 South Clinton Avenue in Bay Shore will also remain open until 7:30 pm. Ocean beaches will follow their normal hours of operation.

Supervisor Urges Precautions During Heat Wave

August 6th, 2018 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter is reminding residents to take the necessary precautions during a heat wave in order to avoid heat stroke and illness. Meteorologists have issued a heat advisory throughout the Tri-State area.

“The frail elderly, children and animals are at a higher risk of heat stroke during a heat wave. I urge residents to follow the steps below to prevent falling ill in extreme temperatures. We want everyone to be in good health while enjoying the summertime,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

12 New Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus - Residents and vsitors are advised to take precautions

August 3rd, 2018 – Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. James Tomarken and Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter announced today that 12 new mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The samples, all Culex pipiens-restuans,were collected between July 23 and July 29th, from Dix Hills (1), Northport (1), West Babylon (3), and Huntington (3), Huntington Station (1), West Islip (2), East Hampton(1). To date, the county has confirmed 35 mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile Virus. To date, there are no human cases.

Teen Financial Fitness Program

August 1st, 2018 – The Town of Islip invites all teenagers 12-19 years of age, to 401 Main Street in Islip, Thursday, August 2nd at 11 am, for an education in personal finance! The program will run for approximately 30 minutes, and will introduce teens to bank services. Following the lesson all are welcome to stay for a showing of "Blank Check" (PG) in our recently renovated theater. No registration is required.
