Town Extends Weekend Lifeguard/Pool Hours

June 30th, 2018 – Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter has announced extended lifeguard and pool hours throughout the weekend. Lifeguard coverage at bay beaches, pools and spray park will continue until 7:45pm, adding an extra hour of coverage for town pools, and an extra 1.5 hours for spray park and bay beaches. Facilities will begin to be cleared starting at 7:30 pm.

Additionally, lifeguard coverage at all Town of Islip ocean beaches will be extended until 6:00 pm, with waters being cleared shortly before. The extended window adds an extra 1 hour of coverage for Seaview and Atlantique beach, and an extra half-hour for Fair Harbor, Dunewood, and Kismet beach.

Town of Islip Accepting Nominations for 2018 Hispanic Heritage Celebration

June 29th, 2018 – The Town of Islip is currently accepting nominations for its annual Celebration of Hispanic Heritage. The Town will celebrate Hispanic Heritage 2018 by honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the Islip community through their professional or volunteer activity.

To nominate a community member, please submit a Nomination Form no later than Friday, August 24, 2018. You may obtain a Nomination Form by visiting the Town’s website at

June 19th, 2018 – The Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs is announcing the 2018 Islip Summer Fun Series, a twice weekly event featuring movies, games, food trucks and more. "Monday Family Nights'' kick-off on July 2nd and will continue each Monday through August 27th, with crafts, games, and movies appropriate for all ages. The fun shifts gears for "Tuesday Date Nights,'' beginning July 10th through August 28th, and will feature music, trivia and romantic comedies. Admission is FREE!


Falls Prevention Workshop for Our Mature Adults

June 11th, 2018 – Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter is pleased to announce that the County’s national award-winning program focused on falls prevention is being held in the Town of Islip. The program is intended to empower mature adults to engage in behaviors that reduce the risks of falls, improve self-management and improve their quality of life.

‘Stepping On’ is a CDC model program that comprises a seven-week workshop that focuses on balance and strength, home and community safety, vision, safe footwear and medication review. The program has proven to reduce the number of falls for participants by 31 percent.

“Participants in this program will gain the knowledge necessary to stay safe in and around the home,” said Supervisor Carpenter.


In Memory of Former Supervisor Frank R. Jones

June 26th, 2018 – Flags in the Town of Islip will be flying at half-staff in memory of the late Frank R. Jones, former Supervisor to the Town of Islip from 1987-1993. Frank R. Jones died Friday at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California. He was 88.

"One of Frank R. Jones' many accomplishments was saving the Sayville Beach at Foster Avenue from future development, so that generations of Islip residents could enjoy this local treasure. I am grateful that last year, Frank Jones was able to be with us for the Town's dedication of the Supervisor Frank R. Jones Beach at Sayville Marina Park in his honor," said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

Ozone Health Advisory for Monday, June 18, 2018

June 18th, 2019 – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an ozone health advisory for Long Island and the Metropolitan New York City Region. Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. James Tomarken are advising that all residents, especially young children, seniors, those who exercise or are involved in strenuous outdoor work, and those with pre-existing respiratory or heart problems, limit strenuous outdoor activity. Ozone levels are often elevated after noon through early evening on hot, sunny days.

Trail Rides at Connetquot State Park Preserve

June 6th, 2018 – Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs have announced horseback Trail Rides at Connetquot State Park Preserve. Enjoy an hour long horseback ride in the beautiful park, and explore the 50 miles on your own or with family and friends. Sessions will be offered for children 8 years to adult, and are $36 for all Town of Islip residents. Both Summer and Fall sessions are available.


2018 Horseback Summer Riding Camp

June 6th, 2018 – Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs invites children 6–8 years of age to Minieri's Parkview Riding Center for a unique blend of horse riding lessons, trail rides, grooming, and tacking instruction. Campers will practice how to bathe a horse and lead it to a stall, as well as learn about and observe farm animals interacting with one another. Arts and crafts, games on horseback, water games and a water slide will also available.
