Update 7/31: The LIRR has canceled the below scheduled work
due to weather forecast in our area.

July 30th, 2018 – The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will permanently pave the North Peters Boulevard grade crossing in Central Islip in response to community concern about the crossing. Work is scheduled for this Wednesday, August 1st, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This work will improve the ride quality and track stability through the crossing. LIRR Double Track Project - Month of August

July 26th, 2018 – During the month of August, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will continue ongoing track work and other construction in preparation for completion of the Double Track Project between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. The LIRR Double Track Project will improve service and reliability on the LIRR’s Ronkonkoma Branch. It will reduce delays and enable more off peak service in both directions. 'Short Flight. Long Island' Campaign Raises Awareness for Travelers in Baltimore-Washington D.C.

July 23, 2018 – Following the launch of “Short Flight. Long Island.” in April 2018, Discover Long Island and Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) today released post-campaign results that showcase an increase in positive awareness about Long Island as a destination, and Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) for accessibility.

The six-week cooperative campaign produced over 18M impressions through digital and social media assets, with highlights including a Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI) Wi-Fi take over, advertising platforms at highly trafficked metro stations across D.C. and Maryland, and bike share kiosk promotion in the D.C. market. Pre- and post- campaign surveys were conducted to establish benchmarks for consumer awareness and perception, allowing Long Island to successfully track engagement.

Supervisor Carpenter Reports: Town Lifeguards Keep Watchful Eye as Bathing Returns to Normal

July 20th, 2018 – Islip Town beaches remain open today with no reported shark sightings, as bathers, waders and swimmers return to ocean waters in the aftermath of two incidents earlier this week. Town of Islip lifeguards resumed their posts for the second day Friday with a heightened awareness, after two children were bit Wednesday morning by what NYSDEC determined were sand sharks in Sailor’s Haven and Atlantique. The children were treated at area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries and released. Lifeguards are keeping a watchful eye on the ocean as the weekend draws near.

“I am so thankful to our ocean lifeguards for acting within a split second. We are grateful that the two children who were bitten are going to be fine,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
