A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

March 29th, 2024 – The Town of Islip is honored to join our community in observing National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29th. This day holds immense significance as it marks the anniversary of the day in 1973 when the last American troops were withdrawn from Vietnam, putting an end to one of the longest wars in U.S. history. In 2017, President Trump signed into law the recognition of this day as an annual day of observance, ensuring that the sacrifices made by our brave Vietnam veterans are never forgotten.

It is important to note that National Vietnam War Veterans Day is a separate holiday from Veterans Day, which is celebrated on November 11th and marks the end of the First World War. “As we come together to honor our Vietnam veterans, I’d like to encourage all citizens of the Town of Islip to fly the U.S. flag as a symbol of gratitude for the service and the sacrifices made during this nearly 20-year-long conflict. Let us also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the local community groups, veterans' organizations, schools, churches, and civic groups who have dedicated their time and efforts to organize events and tributes in honor of our Vietnam veterans. Your commitment to preserving their legacy and ensuring that their sacrifices are always remembered is truly commendable,” said Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter.
