The Division of Planning administers the permit processing which requires approval from the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and/or Town Board. Long term, this Division maintains the Town Comprehensive Plan, periodically updating demographics and development trends. Planning studies, such as the current Local Waterfront Revitalization Study, provide information to the Town Board that allows this Division to update or amend the Comprehensive Plan. This Division also manages and updates the Town Geographic Information System (GIS), used by departments throughout the Town.

Zoning is a tool that municipalities use to regulate the use and development of properties. This link will take you to the Town of Islip Zoning Map, where you can see the underlying zoning of a property and the regulations associated with that zone. All information presented on this site is subject to verification by the departments or agencies responsible for producing, entering, and updating that data for the Town of Islip.




IMPORTANT NOTICE:

New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code (the “Uniform Code”), and State Energy Conservation Construction Code (the “Energy Code”) updates.

On December 6, 2019, the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council (the “Code Council”) adopted rules that amend and update the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code (the “Uniform Code”) and the State Energy Conservation Construction Code (the “Energy Code”).

The Department of State, acting on behalf of the Code Council, has filed Notices of Adoption of these rules. The Notices of Adoption will appear in the February 12, 2020 edition of the State Register. On and after February 12, 2020, the Notices of Adoption can be viewed by clicking the “February 12” link at: http://w ww.dos.ny.gov/info/register/2020.html.

The rules will become effective on May 12, 2020.
There will be no transition period.

Beginning on May 12, 2020, regulated parties submitting building permit applications must comply with the 2020 NYS Code Books.
