The Town of Islip has an established Bay Bottom Licensing Program, which encompasses over 1,500 acres of Town-owned Bay Bottom in the Town of Islip. License Parcels were approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), and range anywhere in size from 1 to 5 acres near Sexton Island and 10 acres near Nicolls Point. The Program has proven successful as both a boost to the local economy, and to those entrepreneurs who License Bay Bottom parcels for growing out oysters, hard shell clams and scallops. Once grown, the Shellfish are marketed, and sold to local restaurants and retail/wholesale establishments.
The Town currently has a waiting list for future available parcels. To place your name on the waiting list, contact the Department of Environmental Control (DEC), by clicking HERE, or by calling the DEC at (631) 595-3630.
