April 11th, 2019- Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. joined with Mr. and Mrs. Eduardo and Juliana King, the parents of fallen Army Specialist Jose L. Ruiz, at the dedication of the Brentwood Post Office in memory of their son, who was killed in action in 2005. Army Specialist Ruiz graduated Brentwood High School in 1994, and attended New York Institute of Technology, where he learned computer network engineering. It was after the September 11th terrorist attacks that Army Specialist Ruiz was inspired to join the military. During his time in the military, he received nine prestigious medals for his courage on the battlefield, including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Army Specialist Ruiz died August 15, 2005 in Mosul, Iraq at age 28. Congressman Peter King was also in attendance.
