April 17th, 2019– Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and members of the Town Board conducted the annual Town of Islip Student Achievement Awards Night, honoring students nominated from districts throughout the Town in such categories as Fine Arts, Language Arts, Leadership, Mathematics, Performing Arts, Scholarship and Athletics, Science, Secondary Language, Service to People in Need and Social Studies. The a-capella trio, The Blessings, opened the evening with "The Star Spangled Banner."
The Supervisor and Town Board members also recognized students from Connetquot High School who were recently inducted into the first-ever Connetquot Chapter of the Rho Kappa Social Studies National Honor Society.
"These young men and women represent the talent that exists in the Town of Islip, and are shining examples of the result of hard work, dedication and committment," said Supervisor Carpenter.
Dozens of parents, siblings and teachers joined with school principals and superintendents to commend these bright, rising stars. The annual event is coordinated through the Town's Office of Cultural Affairs. Winners are selected by a panel of three judges.
