May 3rd, 2019– The Town of Islip Public Safety Division is currently conducting its second Peace Officer Academy. The academy consists of Narcan training, classroom instruction in law, ethics, communication, daily defensive tactics, physical training, CPR and First Aid.
In this year's graduating class are security officers from Long Island MacArthur Airport, Islip Park Rangers and Town of Oyster Bay and Huntington Bay Constables. The New York State approved program is taught by Town of Islip certified instructors.
This is the second time the Town of Islip has led its own Peace Officer Academy. "Conducting our own in-house academy is not only a cost-saving measure, but it gives our instructors the opportunity to design a program tailored to the Town's needs," said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
Officers will graduate May 16th. The first Town of Islip academy took place in December 2017.
