Local Officials from the Town of Islip cut the ribbon in front of the marina

May 29th, 2025 – The Town of Islip held a ribbon-cutting to mark the completion of several infrastructural upgrades implemented at the West Islip Marina. Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter was joined by Councilmen Jorge Guadron and Michael McElwee, Town Clerk Linda Vavricka, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Tom Owens, and former Councilman Brian Ferrugiari, whose dedication helped bring the long-awaited project to life.

The West Islip Marina project included a wide range of upgrades designed to improve safety, accessibility, and environmental resilience. Key enhancements consisted of rebuilding the boat ramp and replacing the west side bulkhead, both essential to marina operations. The electric and water services on the west side were upgraded to better serve boaters, and the marina’s north wall also underwent renovations. At the marina entrance, both sides of the breakwater were fully replaced, and dredging was completed to support safe navigation.

In addition to these essential infrastructure improvements, the project also included enhancements on the east side of the marina. Native plants were added along the breakwater to support shoreline stability and environmental health, along with a new fencing installed along the beach. Roadways and parking areas on the west side were repaved, creating a more accessible and welcoming experience for residents.

This project was completed through a coordinated effort between town officials at the Parks Department, contractors, and input from the boating community. The Town of Islip remains committed to maintaining and improving its recreational waterfronts and looks forward to continuing efforts that support accessibility, safety, and quality of life for all residents.

“These improvements will help support local marina operations and provide better access to the water for residents,” said Supervisor Carpenter. “Now more than ever, we are focused on enhancing boating safety throughout the Town, and we’re grateful to take another step forward with this project.”
