Islip Town Living History Day is Here!
Join us on Saturday, June 8, 2024, to explore the unique history of the Town of Islip. This event will feature displays and programs from organizations that preserve the history of Islip Town. The event will be held between 10 AM and 4 PM on the grounds of Islip Grange Park located at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Montauk Highway in Sayville, NY.
Among the groups participating will be the Sayville Farmer’s Market, Bayport Aerodrome, Islip Town Firefighters Museum, Islip Town Clerk’s Office, Town Historian’s Office and other craft groups, reenactment groups, historical societies, and libraries. The Town Clerk’s Office will have a display of our veteran’s books for you to view and perhaps find a family member. There will be displays from historical societies and living history groups, demonstrations of quilting (along with demonstrations) in the chapel, colonial homemaking, military drills (near to the site of an actual Civil War recruiting camp), Revolutionary soldiers, children’s games from days gone by, a display from the Long Island Maritime Museum, a biplane from the Bayport Aerodrome, and fire apparatus from the Islip Town Firemen’s Museum, making this a great day out for the family.
Among the planned events will be two scheduled walking tours of the Grange buildings with the unique story of the founding of the Town of Islip. The Sayville Farmer’s Market will be open so you can enjoy history and also step back in time to shop for fresh food and delicacies. There will be information available on researching your history and the history of your home.
