Islip Town Councilwoman DawnMarie Kuhn is a 38-year-old who is committed to breaking down barriers for women in business, government and politics. Born and raised in Bohemia as a fourth generation Bohemian, DawnMarie has always been deeply connected to her community. She graduated from Connetquot High School in 2005 where she found her passion for public service, government and politics.

About Councilwoman DawnMarie Kuhn

Throughout her life, DawnMarie has put an emphasis on being educated in her field. In 2009 she received her undergraduate degree from St. Joseph's College in Social Sciences. She then went on to obtain an M.A. from Brooklyn College in Public Administration and Urban Development. She received her second M.A. from Fordham University in Campaign and Election Management. In 2024 DawnMarie graduated with her third M.A. from Columbia University in Quantitative Methods in Social Sciences. She is currently studying for her fourth master's degree at Columbia University in Political Analytics. DawnMarie is utilizing her educational background and applying it to her role as Islip Town Councilwoman.

DawnMarie has worked in both Town and County Government giving more than a decade of municipal service to our local community. She worked in the Town of Islip D.E.C for five years where she handled thousands of constituent concerns within the Town. DawnMarie then served as Chief of Staff to Islip Town Councilman James O'Connor, her predecessor, and served as Chief of Staff to Suffolk County Legislator Anthony A. Piccirillo. In addition to her governmental experience, DawnMarie is a proud small business owner. As a daughter of a small business owner, working side by side with her family in her father's delicatessen, DawnMarie was inspired to open a small business of her own in 2017. She brings a unique perspective of both having municipal and private sector experience to the Islip Town Board.

For her efforts in Government and her small business DawnMarie has been awarded three times by the Long Island Business News, she was awarded the 40 under 40 award in 2024 and was awarded top 50 women in business twice in 2020 and 2024. For her efforts as the Bohemia Civic President, DawnMarie was awarded in 2024 by the Bohemia Fire Department as the Citizen of the Year.

DawnMarie was elected to her first term as Islip Town Councilwoman for Council District 2 on Tuesday November 4, 2025, and assumed office on January 1st, 2026. Her district includes Bohemia, Oakdale, West Sayville, Great River, North Great River, East Islip, Islip Terrace, Central Islip and Hauppauge. She is the 5th woman elected to Islip Town Council, the first millennial to be elected to Islip Town Council and the first person in recent history to have worked in a Department within the Town of Islip prior to holding elected office.

Beyond government, DawnMarie likes to read, garden, travel, and play with her dog Ralphe and eat Italian food with her family. She is deeply honored to serve as Islip Town Councilwoman and looks forward to serving all Islip Town residents with honor and distinction.
