July 30th, 2019 – Town of Islip lifeguards are taking part in their annual Lifeguard Training Competition this week at Town beaches and pools.

Timed events include jumping from the chair, swimming out to and rescuing an active drowning victim, and bringing the victim to shore. The clock is stopped when the lifeguard makes contact with the chair. Later this week, lifeguards will compete in a Run/Swim (mile run and 500 yd. swim) and Beach Flags competition.

"These competitions help lifeguards advance their proficiency in life-saving skills through various pool and beach exercises, which benefits everyone," said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
