May 28th, 2019– The East Islip, Islip Memorial Day Parade ended with a touching service at the Veterans Memorial Park at Islip Town Hall Monday.
May 28th, 2019– Hundreds lined the parade route under bright blue skies Monday, for the 65th Annual West Islip American Legion Post 1738 Memorial Day Parade.
The Legion’s float celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the American Legion. The West Islip High School Marching Band was outstanding, and Taps was beautifully performed by Ryan. All joined in recognizing John, a special WWII Veteran.
May 22nd, 2019– The hamlet of Sayville welcomed new business Free Spirits Yoga on Main St. to the community with a ribbon cutting ceremony recently.
May 22nd, 2019– The 5th Ave. bridge over the Southern State Parkway was renamed the Detective John E. Thomas Sr. Memorial Bridge in honor of the late detective. The Bay Shore native, who previously served in the United States Navy during WWII, began his career in law enforcement in the Brightwaters Police Department, and was the first African American policeman in the Suffolk County Police Department.
May 21st, 2019– Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart conducted a joint press conference today, reminding boaters and motorists of the hazards of boating and driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, as we head into the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
May 17th, 2019– Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter was joined by Islip Public Safety Commissioner, Anthony D'Amico, Long Island MacArthur Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken and Islip Town officials, at a ceremony marking the second graduating class of the 2019 Town of Islip Peace Officer Academy. The graduation coincided with National Police Week, May 12-17, and took place in Town Hall.
