The Town of Islip Department of Planning and Development is responsible for enhancing the quality of life for its residents and creating an environment that allows businesses to grow through comprehensive planning that balances social, economic and environmental goals. The Department of Public Works, is responsible for a variety of services, including the maintenance of over 1,200 miles of roadway, maintaining 58 Town building and facilities, maintenance of Town owned sumps, and removal and maintenance of trees located in the Town right-of-way.

The Department of Public Safety Enforcement encompasses the Divisions of Public Safety, Code Enforcement, Fire Prevention, Hazardous Materials Response Team, Office of Emergency Management, Parking Violations Bureau and Harbor Patrol.

The Department helps ensure the protection, safety and security of Town-owned facilities including parks, marinas and municipal properties. Additionally, Public Safety Enforcement maintains a 24-hour/7 day a week communication center which serves as a vital link in transmitting critical information and messaging to Town Peace Officers, Fire Prevention and hazardous materials response personnel.

Then, after browsing the site, you may be tempted not only to visit, but to move to this waterfront community of more than 300,000 residents, with nearly 30 hamlets and incorporated villages on Fire Island and the mainland.
