December 18th, 2020 – Islip DPW crews have been working to clear the Town’s approximate 1,200 miles of roadway in the aftermath of this week’s storm. Crews began prepping Wednesday by salting and brining roads, followed by continuous plowing once the storm hit the region. Crews are currently salting roads, and removing snow from areas where cars may have been left behind.
“This particular storm brought a combination of snow, sleet, rain, coupled with freezing temperatures, causing extreme icing conditions which slowed the clearing process,” said Tom Owens, DPW Commissioner. All Town roads are currently open,” he said.
“It is truly a collaborative effort here in our Town, with departments working together combining resources. To our dedicated Town workers, from DPW, Parks, DEC, Public Safety, to those fielding the calls, a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ for a real team effort,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
Residents are reminded to move their cars off the road and into their driveway or onto their lawn if necessary, along with basketball hoops and any other recreational equipment, so that plows can clear the roads safely and efficiently
