A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

February 1st, 2021 The Long Island Railroad has informed that beginning this Wednesday, February 3rd through February 5th and again the following week from Monday February 8th to Friday February 12th, the LIRR will be performing Sperry Testing on the Montauk Branch from Babylon to Sayville. As a result, one of two main line tracks will be out of service from approximately 8:45am until 3:15pm each day. Please see the below for more details. Previously scheduled work for February 1st and 2nd has been canceled due to inclement weather.

SPERRY TESTING – BABYLON TO SAYVILLE

  • From approximately 8:45 am to 3:15pm on Wednesday February 3rd until Friday February 5th one of the main line tracks between Babylon and Sayville will be out of service due to Sperry Rail Testing. This is part of our annual track maintenance program which ensures our infrastructure is in a state of good repair. Previously scheduled work for Monday 2/1 and Tuesday 2/2 has been cancled due to weather.

  • Some trains will be cancelled and replaced by buses in both directions between Babylon and Speonk and some trains will have added stops to accommodate trains that were cancelled. Passengers can expect approximately an additional 30 minutes of travel time.

  • Part of Sperry testing involves catching defects in the rail, and when possible our crews will address these on site. As such, while the Sperry train itself does not cause much noise, any potential remedial work that is undertaken will, so there could be extra noise in the vicinity of our outage.

  • Please click on this link here and scroll down to Special weekday timetables to view all of the schedule changes.

*Work is weather dependent, dates are subject to change to take advantage of favorable conditions
