A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” - Angie

As members of the FDNY, local Fire Departments, members of the Suffolk County Police Department, and local officials commemorate the life and mourn the loss of firefighter Jesse Gerhard, 33, Town of Islip Public Safety Officials are advising residents to expect dense traffic and road closures in the Bay Shore area on Wednesday, February 23rd.

The Suffolk County Police Department has announced there will be road closures between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm Wednesday morning into afternoon. Main Street will be closed between Community Road and 4th Avenue, Mechanicsville Road will be closed between 4th Avenue and Clinton Avenue, and Gibson Street will be closed at the intersections of South Clinton, Bay and Ocean avenues.

SCPD will be on scene assisting with the diversion of traffic. Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid traveling in the area unless absolutely necessary, and to expect delays and extended travel time otherwise.

"We are all of us deeply saddened by the loss of fallen hero, firefighter Jesse Gerhard, who served with courage and valor not just in the FDNY, but as a 12-year veteran of the Islip Fire Department. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. Flags will be flown at half-mast throughout the Town in honor of his service and memory." said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. "Please allow for a temporary interruption of access along Main Street in Bay Shore as the funeral procession celebrates his legacy," the Supervisor added.
