A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

December 17th, 2019 Long Island MacArthur Airport is a nominee for the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Small Airport. The nominees were released today and voting is underway through noon on January 13. All voting is digital via the 10Best website, and members of the public may cast one vote each day. Winners will be announced January 24.

“We are honored to be one of the 20 airports selected by a panel of experts. We are hoping our loyal base of travelers and the Long Island community will vote each day,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

The competition describes these top facilities as being “smaller, friendlier airports” that “excel with their commercial flight offerings, easy access and amenities.” The small airport category includes airports with fewer than 10 million passengers each year.

“MacArthur Airport is working hard to provide an excellent customer experience,” said Aviation Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken. “It’s gratifying that the experts participating in the USA Today 10Best Awards recognize MacArthur’s ability to conveniently serve New York travelers,” she added.

The voting page describes MacArthur Airport as an alternative for airline passengers “wishing to avoid the big, crowded New York area airports (JFK and LaGuardia).”
