NOTICE FROM NYS:
Governor Cuomo has announced the State is increasing the maximum fine for violations of the State’s social distancing protocol from $500 to $1,000 to help address the lack of adherence to social distancing protocols. The Governor reminded localities that they have the authority to enforce the protocols.
In light of increased reports of gatherings at Town parks, beaches, and parking lots, etc. the Town will be stepping-up enforcement of this NYS mandate. Town of Islip Park rangers will be patrolling, and are authorized under the Governor’s order to write summonses for a fine of $1,000. We will be seeking permission from the State to turn over any fines collected to the “First Responders Fund”- this fund assists COVID-19 health care workers and first responders with expenses and costs, including child care. It is administered by the New York State Department of Health. Anyone seeing instances of non-adherence can also call the Suffolk County Police Department at 311.
We are asking each and every resident to do their part, and be mindful of all COVID-19 directives and protocols. We will get through this.
