April 7th, 2021 – The memory of NYPD Sgt. James P. Bast was honored at a street renaming in Sayville recently, paying tribute to the fallen officer who died from a 9-11 related illness. Behrendt Ct., in Sayville was renamed Sgt. James P. Bast Way by the Town of Islip.
Sgt. Bast retired from the NYPD Intelligence Bureau's Municipal Security Section after 23 years of service. After retiring, James became a member of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg's security detail. The event was attended by Islip Supervisor, Angie Carpenter, Town Councilman James O'Connor and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

“Sgt. Bast exhibited true heart, courage and devotion to his community and fellow countrymen. He stands among those noble few, who did not hesitate to join the recovery efforts following one of the darkest moments in our nation’s history. Our deepest gratitude goes out to him and his family.
