A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” - Angie

Sgt. Guarnieri was a member of the New York New Jersey Port Authority Police Department, a volunteer firefighter and an Islip Terrace Fire Department Captain. East Farmingdale St. in Islip Terrace was renamed “Sgt. Lawrence A. Guarnieri Way,” memorializing his legacy on the block where he raised his family, and where his children still live today. Sgt. Guarnieri’s children and grandchildren attended the unveiling of the sign.

“Sgt. Guarnieri demonstrated courage and commitment to his community and to his fellow citizens. He put himself in harm’s way, as a member of the New York New Jersey Port Authority Police Department, and as a member and Captain of the Islip Terrace Fire Department. Our deepest gratitude goes out to him and his family. May the dedication of this street in his honor, serve to remind us of the many sacrifices made by the men and women of our Town, the repercussions of which are still felt 20 years later,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

Attending the street dedication in addition to Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter were Islip Councilwoman, Mary Kate Mullen and members of the Guarnieri family, extended family, neighbors and friends.
