May 18th, 2021 – Jesse Dellavecchia, a Great River resident and East Islip High School graduate, was celebrated by Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Town Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen, Councilwoman Trish Bergin, and Babylon Town Supervisor, Rich Schaffer this week, for his accomplishments in collegiate wrestling this year.
Dellavecchia made Rider University history, becoming the school's first national finalist and having pinned the No. 1 seed just 17 seconds into the second period of the 157-pound semi final.
Dellavecchia went on to take 2nd Place in the Nationals. His accomplishments are many, holding a 2-time MAC Champion title; 2-time NYS finalist, 3 time All State and 4 time NHSCA All-American.
"Jesse has established himself as a role model in the community. He is an exceptional individual who lives his life with determination, drive and tenacity," said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
Jesse is the son of Dawn and Dave Dellavecchia.
