August 24th, 2021 – September is National Recovery Month. In memory of the lives lost, those in recovery and the Islip families affected by the Opioid/Heroin crisis, the Islip Town Hall Cupola, along with merchants and businesses throughout the Town, will be illuminated in purple during the month of September. According to the CDC, there were 93,331 Opioid and Heroin overdose deaths in 2020, more than any year in history. Experts contribute the record number of fatal overdoses to the pandemic and quarantine.
Islip Goes Purple is a month-long initiative designed to unite the Town of Islip in raising awareness of substance use disorder and celebrating those in recovery. All townships are encouraged to “go purple” and conduct events throughout National Recovery Month in September.
Residents can pick up FREE purple yard signs, lightbulbs or bows from one of the distribution sites around the town between 2pm-5pm on Wednesday, August 25 at Razing Hair in Bayport; Thursday, August 26 at Islip Town Hall West located at 401 Main St.; Monday, August 30, West Islip Recreation Center.
