January 28th, 2022 – Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter has declared a State of Emergency as of 3:00 PM Friday, January 28th, ahead of the forecasted blizzard expected to impact the Islip area Friday evening into Saturday night.
Islip crews have been out since early Friday, salting and sanding roads in preparation for the expected 11 to 15 inches of snow accumulation. Town crews will transition to plow operations at 1 ½ inches of accumulation.
Residents are urged to keep roadways clear while the State of Emergency is in effect, and are asked to move any obstructions including vehicles, OFF of roads and into their driveways or lawns. Vehicles parked on the road during snowfall significantly reduce the ability for snow plows to pass safely and fully clear roads. Such vehicles risk being ticketed and/or towed.
“Out of respect for the safety of our plow operators, your vehicle, and your neighbors, we ask for the community’s cooperation in this manner while Town crews work to clear our roads,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Please be safe, keep travel limited to emergencies only and remember to check in on your elderly friends and neighbors,” she added.
