A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

April 6th, 2022 Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter attended the Higbie Lane Senior Center in West Islip recently for a plaque dedication ceremony honoring longtime Senior Center member and Higbie Art Studio director, Joseph DiMola. The Supervisor was joined by Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Deputy Commissioner, Carol Charchalis, members of Town of Islip Senior Citizen Services, members of the Higbie Lane Senior Center, as well as members of Joseph DiMola’s family.

“Joe was an open, caring and extraordinary individual, who believed that no matter your age or experience, you could always learn something new,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “We were truly blessed to have Joseph DiMola as part of our West Islip Center family, and we are proud to dedicate this plaque and the Higbie Lane Art Studio in his name,” the Supervisor added.

Joe passed away on November 19, 2020 at the age 93. He and his wife Rose attended the Higbie Lane Senior Center every day for over 15 years, and were both active members in the Deer Lake Senior Club. Joe voluntarily directed and organized the Higbie Art Studio, keeping inventory of supplies and providing art instruction to his peers. Full of wisdom and advice, Joe was eager to teach life lessons, and loved to share stories about his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with everyone he met.

The Higbie Lane Senior Center is one of six Senior Centers run by the Town and is located at 90 Higbie Lane, West Islip. To learn more about the Higbie Lane Center or others, as well as additional programs, call the Town of Islip Office of Senior Citizen Services at (631) 224-5316.
