“In the league’s 40-year history, we have never secured enough players to allow our athletic seniors to compete. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Bobby Patch, this year that all changes,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. The Suffolk County Town Senior Softball League has been around since 1982. It consists of senior softball teams 60 years old and over from each Township in Suffolk County. However, Islip has never had enough seniors to participate in the league, until this season, when Islip Resident and Manager Bobby Patch put together enough interested players within the Town to participate. The newly formed Buccaneers competed against the Smithtown Patriots at the newly renovated turf field at Broadway Ave. Park in Sayville. The 2022 season will run from May through July, with games held Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Residents 60 years of age or older who are interested in joining the Islip 60+ Buccaneers Softball Team can call the Town’s Sports office at (631) 224-5404 for more information on how to participate.
