A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

February 3rd, 2023 – Islip Town employees turned out wearing red by the dozens, for the Town’s annual “Go Red for Women” campaign Friday, during February, American Heart Month. Staff from departments Town-wide contributed $5 each, to be donated to cardiac health and research programs at neighboring hospitals, Good Samaritan University and South Shore University.

“Symptoms of a cardiac event vary between men and women,” said Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter. “Today, the Town is shining a spotlight on women making a commitment to take charge of their own heart health and the health of those they love. We are grateful to our Town of Islip employees, who continue to embrace each and every opportunity to raise awareness, whether it be for breast cancer awareness, substance abuse treatment, or our wonderful partnership with the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program. Today, hundreds of dollars were raised for cardiac health and research, and we are truly appreciative,” said the Supervisor.

Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. Most cardiovascular diseases can still be prevented with education and healthy lifestyle changes, according to the American Heart Association.

In keeping with American Heart Month, Supervisor Carpenter invited Dr. Harold Fernandez, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, South Shore University Hospital, to a recent taping of Supervisor Spotlight, where they discussed advances in cardiac care, heart disease and diabetes prevention, lifestyle changes, among other topics.
