May 18th, 2023 – A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the unveiling of renovations completed at the Gillette House in Sayville this week.
The Gillette House renovation project was conducted by talented in-house staff from the Town of Islip’s Department of Public Works, and the Department of Parks, Renovation and Cultural Affairs, along with the help of outside contractors, and included a new roof; exterior painting of the entire building; the replacement of the cast iron heaters; plaster repairs; interior painting; restoration of doors and windows, and the installation of new flooring. The final phase will be irrigation. All renovations were in keeping with the building’s historic past.
On hand for the ribbon-cutting were Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter; Parks and Recreation Commissioner Tom Owens; and Deputy Commissioner Dierdre Wahlberg, who were joined by members of the Sayville Village Improvement Society.
“We are truly fortunate here in the Town of Islip to have such a talented in-house staff who can perform these renovations, and ultimately, return Gillette House to the beloved community in its original grandeur,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
