August 10th, 2023 – Tuesday was National Pickleball Day, and what better way to celebrate than with the unveiling of 6 dedicated pickleball courts in the hamlet of Sayville. In addition, 4 new tennis courts were also unveiled at the ribbon-cutting event at Broadway Ave. Park.
Dozens of enthusiasts of the wildly popular game were eager to play on the recently completed courts.
Brian Bennett, Founder, Broadway Pickleball; Robert Wu; along with tennis and pickleball players joined Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter; Town Councilman, John M. Lorenzo; Parks Commissioner, Tom Owens; Deputy Commissioner, Dierdre Wahlberg and others for a few volleys.
Plans are underway for additional pickleball courts throughout the Town.
"If you rest, you rust," said Supervisor Carpenter, encouraging people of all ages to get outside and exercise!
