October 26th, 2023 – Since rebranding the Anti Bias Task Force into the Unity Council, the Town of Islip has hosted Holocaust Survivor Edith Gross, held a Unity Prayer service with religious leaders of different faiths and backgrounds, and held its inaugural “Unity in the Community” fair.
The Town of Islip is a wonderfully diverse community, and a goal of this group is to celebrate and embrace our differences, while working together for the greater good of the Town.
This week, leaders from the Unity Council hosted the “Ambassador Program,” at the Ross Campus of Brentwood High School, including students from various High Schools across the Town. This is a program so our students can also learn about Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility (IDEA). We were honored to once again have Edith Gross share her story and teach our youth first hand of the horrors of the Holocaust, and deliver her message of hope and inspiration. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney was on hand for the event.
