A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

July 10th, 2024 – Town of Islip officials joined members of the East Brentwood Fire Department and family and friends of Marcos Ledesma to commemorate his life and service with a symbolic street renaming. The intersection of Fulton Ave. and Evergreen St. in Brentwood has been dedicated as, "Marcos Ledesma Way," a testament to his unwavering dedication to protecting and serving his community.

Marcos Ledesma, a lifelong resident of Brentwood, exemplified a remarkable spirit of service from a young age. Graduating from Brentwood High School in 2009, Marcos enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Specialist in the Cavalry Scout. In 2010, he courageously deployed to Iraq, where he spent a year in combat, embodying bravery and commitment to his country.

After completing his military service in 2015, Marcos returned to Brentwood and continued his mission of service by joining the East Brentwood Fire Department in May 2020. His decision to become a firefighter was deeply influenced by a tragic accident he witnessed involving a child, motivating him to protect and serve his community in a new capacity.

"As we gather to honor Marcos Ledesma's memory, we celebrate his extraordinary legacy—a reminder of the enduring power of service and compassion," said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. "Marcos Ledesma's unwavering commitment to safeguarding Brentwood stands as a lasting tribute to his selflessness and courage. His profound impact on our community touched countless lives, inspiring us all to embrace courage, kindness, and dedicated service."

Marcos' life was tragically cut short two years ago on July 9th, in a car accident. He was 31 years old. To honor his legacy, Marcos’ was named Honorary Chief of the East Brentwood Fire Department.

“The dedication of "Marcos Ledesma Way" ensures that his spirit and infectious enthusiasm will forever be remembered and cherished by those who pass by,” added Supervisor Carpenter.
