October 25th, 2019 – Marina Guard Mark Schoberl was recognized for his heroism at the Town's October Town Board meeting. Schoberl came upon a two-car motor vehicle accident in West Islip this past August minutes after it had taken place. His quick-thinking actions, securing the scene and extinguishing flames with a fire extinguisher, helped prevent a tragic situation from occurring.
Just a few hours later while continuing his patrols, Mark stopped at the Sayville Marina where a patron notified he and a fellow guard, that a woman’s wallet had been left behind in an area adjacent to the bathhouse. Mark and his colleague located the owner and returned the wallet.
Supervisor Carpenter and Town Board members presented Mark with a Certificate of Appreciation, at the suggestion of the wallet's owner, who called the Supervisor's office to express their gratitude./p>
