October 30th, 2019 – Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter joined with members of the First Baptist Church of Bay Shore to spruce up 5 homes on Harrison Ave. and Harrison Place recently. The initiative, Spruce Up Bay Shore, brings volunteers together to paint, repair porches and do all they can to help fix-up homes in the area.
Several groups have joined forces to help, including the Long Island Housing Partnership, The State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA) and the First Baptist Church of Bay Shore. Ahead of the event, volunteers go door-to-door, asking homeowners if they’d like their property to be on the list for a little TLC.
“It’s truly rewarding to be involved in this effort, where the results are immediate and bring pride in ownership. A few extra hands can make a tremendous difference in just a matter of hours,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
Volunteers on this day helped spruce up 14 homes.
