March 9th, 2020 – The Town of Islip Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs held its annual Sharpshooter Basketball competition Saturday. Dozens of boys and girls in 4th and 5th grades competed in the event.
"Congratulations to all the kids who participated and to those who placed. The Sharpshooter competition is a fun-filled event that brings together kids and parents from across the Town," said Islip Supervisor Carpenter.
Supervisor Carpenter was joined by Councilman James O'Connor; Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen and Deputy Commissioner, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Deirdre Whalberg.
The following boys and girls finished in the Top 3:
1st- 4th Grade Girls: Gianna Baldo, Bayview-23 pts.
2nd- 4th Grade Girls: Leilany Ruiz, Northeast-19 pts.
3rd-4th Grade Girls: Alaniz Price, O'Neill-18 pts.
1st- 4th Grade Boys: Matthew Ehlers, South Country, 35 pts.
2nd-4th Grade Boys: Liam Ryan, Commack Rd., 26 pts.
3rd-4th Grade Boys; Vincent Baez, Idle Hour 30 pts.
1st-5th Grade Girls: Ava Gomez, Southeast, 29 pts.
2nd-5th Grade Girls: Avery Bowden, Kennedy, 24 pts.
3rd-5th Grade Girls: Jenna Obloj, Paul J. Bellew, 24 pts.
1st-5th Grade Boys: Hassan Ajmal, Oak Park, 40 pts.
2nd-5th Grade Boys: Jake McCarthy, Blue Point, 34 pts.
3rd-5th Grade Boys: Kaiden Capurso, Academy St., 31/38 Tie breaker.
