March 31st, 2020 – There was an outpouring of support from local residents for health care workers at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip Monday.
A Caravan of Encouragement motorcade, organized by West Islip resident Anthony Musumeci, paid tribute to doctors, nurses and hospital staff on the front lines, treating COVID-19 patients across Long Island.
"God bless those angels in the buildings, in Good Samaritan Hospital, at Southside Hospital, and every hospital and healthcare facility across this wonderful island, across the State of New York, and across our country," said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
"They're fighting a war. We're here to boost their morale and to show them we're here for them...tell them we love them and 'Thank You,' said Musumeci, a Town of Islip Public Safety Officer and West Islip resident. "We're all in this together. We'll get through this together."
Musumeci said he wasn't surprised by the turnout from the community. "This doesn't shock me. This is what this community does," he said.
