April 6th, 2020 – Town of Islip Councilman and President of the Defense Association of New York, James P. O'Connor, was recently quoted in the New York Law Journal, advocating for pragmatic and safe job saving solutions in response to the COVID-19 public health crisis.
"A lot of our firms are going to be significantly impacted by this crisis,” said Councilman O'Connor. "It would be heart-wrenching to let go of outstanding employees who haven’t done anything wrong. Moving legal activities from an in-person system to a remote operation will be crucial to blunting a financial downturn for law firms. That could mean things like conducting a deposition through a video conference, instead of an in-person meeting where people are gathered in a conference room,” Councilman O'Connor added.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to evolve, many industries, including the Town of Islip's legal and business communities have felt the adverse economic impacts. Small Businesses struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic may apply for disaster assistance with the Small Business Administration at https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/disaster-assistance.
