April 16th, 2020 – The owners of Towne Cleaners in Central Islip are doing their part to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in and around their community. La Young Trantrum’s family has owned Towne Cleaners and Laundromat on Carleton Ave for approximately 30 years.
La Young and her sons Leland, 19 and Charles, 17 decided to give back to the community by making cloth face masks to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
They’ve already donated several masks to nurses at Northwell Heath in Manhasset and to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, and are currently working with the Town of Islip and community leaders to identify entities in need within the hamlets of Central Islip and Brentwood.
"It is heartwarming to see the outpouring of support from our business community, civic organizations and our residents, who are all reaching out to help one another. We truly are one Town," said Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
