May 14th, 2020 – Tuesday would have been the Manetuck Elementary School's Class of 2020 5th grade final class trip.
Unfortunately, as is the case with so many milestones, the event was canceled in order to protect the public's health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, three 5th grade teachers, Karen Desz, Greg Schmalenberger and Sue Marullo bought lawn signs, and visited the homes of all 69 West Islip students.
"This is a heart-warming example of the bond teachers have with their students. The kindness they showed in recognizing each and every student brought smiles to everyone's face," said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.All 69 students received a Manetuck Elementary School 2020 Graduate lawn sign.
Congratulations to the Manetuck Class of 2020! We know you'll accomplish great things in life.
