A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

May 15th, 2020 Memorial Day 2020 is Monday, May 25th. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Memorial Day parades and public celebrations have been canceled.

Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and the Islip Town Board are calling on all elementary school students in the Town of Islip to help make this year a memorable one despite the public health crisis, by telling us what Memorial Day means to them!

"On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to those who served our country with parades, festivities, barbecues and celebrations that traditionally, would bring people together in remembrance," said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. "Although this year will be different, let's honor our Veterans in a new way," she said.

All interested students are encouraged to submit their name, age, school and picture (optional), along with a paragraph explaining what Memorial Day means to them. All submissions will be shared on the Town of Islip's social media channels, to help our Town spread support and admiration for our nation’s heroes.

Please send all paragraphs and photos via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and include “Memorial Day 2020” in the subject line.
