August 6th, 2020 – The Town of Islip sustained damage from tropical storm force winds caused by Hurricane Isaias, causing heavy limbs to fall, damaging fences and residents’ property, taking down power lines and leaving many roads impassable.
Town of Islip DPW crews are removing debris and working closely with PSEG, so that power can be restored.
“What was really damaging were the fierce wind gusts and the heavy foliage which made parachutes out of the trees,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
Town staff are in the clearing phase, opening up right of ways blocked by downed trees and mangled electric lines. The Town continues to assess the damage caused by Isaias. The next step will be for crews to pick up debris.
Many Town parks, beaches and golf courses have fallen tree limbs. Staff are out in force cleaning up the debris.
Motorists should be extremely cautious while driving and mindful of felled power lines and debris.
